Who Is This Guy?
Piano playing, computer programming indie geek. But perhaps I should expand on that a bit. I’m a recent graduate of Valparaiso University in *gasp* Valparaiso, Indiana. Got my BS in Computer Science. Been dealing with computers for most of my life, from the days of Window 3.11 and DOS (I miss DOS) to Windows 7. Done a bit of hardware, software, virtualization and genetic algorithms. I’ve gotten my fingers at least a bit dirty in most areas of computing, including helpdesk work. Such a joy that is. Safe to say I can navigate around a computer.
In addition, I’ve been into music for as long as I can remember and likely before that. Y’know those parents in movies and TV where they have headphones on the womb so the baby can supposedly hear the music. Yeah, that was my parents, and it was likely The Beatles they were sending me. Great people, my parents. Started taking piano lessons when I was quite young, younger that I would personally teach. Years later, things would come full circle when I became a teacher myself at Front Porch Music. My first few teachers tried to inundate me into the classical music scene. Makes sense, they were classically trained and loved it, why shouldn’t I? To make a long story short, it wasn’t my cup of tea. Apart from songs like Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata, classical music never really was my thing. What I did feel at home with was piano rock (Ben Folds, Billy Joel) and even more, indie rock (Death Cab for Cutie, The Shins). That was where I found my niche. It just felt right. Like coming home and slipping into a warm bath with a good meal is warming in the microwave.
So, with this blog, I hope to share with you some things that I find interesting, entertaining, fun, or messed up. Anything pertaining to or part of Geek or Indie culture is fair game. Movies, music, video games, books, websites, other shenanigans. Occasionally I’ll throw in bits from my home life, like some of my dog’s crazy antics. Above all else, I hope the posts will be entertaining and interesting. Can’t say you’ll love ‘em all, as my tastes are both varied and diverse, but I hope you’ll find something you like.
Enjoy!

Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed listening to your piano playing.
Curious if you have heard of Simply Music. Non-traditional method. I love teaching it. Started in Feb. Students love it. They play before they read it. I have all ages and special needs people playing. They are at http://www.simplymusic.com
My website/blog is new and today started a FB page. I hope to post songs also. When you post a new song you play could I receive a link to hear it? are you on FB? or maybe I need to see if there is a place on your blog to sign up to be notified of your postings.
